This position transports patients and materials to and from assigned facility and various locations as needed in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures and protocols. Ensures optimal care to patient population.
Transports patients safely and efficiently between various facilities following appropriate transfer techniques. Validates patients identity based on established department protocol. Remains alert to patient condition and promptly communicates changes to clinical staff.
Assists with patient handling and lifting using appropriate patient safety equipment and appropriate safety procedures.
Delivers and picks up materials such as, but not limited to, health records, test results, specimens, supplies, and other miscellaneous items, to and from assigned facility and other businesses within the assigned area.
Responds to all job calls in a timely manner. Communicates status updates and location information as required in accordance with department protocols to help facilitate work flow.
Inspects vehicle on a daily basis and ensures vehicle is in good running condition and scheduled maintenance (e.g. gas, oil, tuned, washed, vacuumed, etc.) has been completed. Reports all mechanical problems or concerns to immediate supervisor.
Maintains accurate log of vehicle runs and all other vehicle activity.
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
BLS certification required.Must possess a valid drivers license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy. Must be able to operate a company owned vehicle and have an excellent driving record.
Must be knowledgeable of the street layout and grid of the assigned locations. Ability to interpret verbal and written information/instructions and effectively communicate with others. Must demonstrate the ability to function effectively with minimal supervision in an environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
Interpersonal skills to operate in a direct patient contact environment, as typically obtained by six months experience in related healthcare setting preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
