The Genetic Counselor 2 | 3 will provide genetic counseling, will coordinate the assessment and laboratory testing of patients seen in Genomic Medicine clinic as well as have the responsibility to design, administer and evaluate specialized programs and/or or serve as the designated expert/consultant or source of specialized knowledge within the Division of Genomic Medicine.
Masters' Degree in Genetic Counseling and board eligible or board certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
Must be licensed as a Genetic Counselor in the State of California or eligible to obtain license upon hire.
Previous experience working as a genetic counselor, preferably in general genetics or biochemical genetics.
Knowledge of counseling techniques and genetic test interpretation.
Skill in interviewing and counseling techniques to elicit from the patient or family, the information necessary to reach an appropriate conclusion.
Intermediate level computer skills and experience (EMR, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, web-browser).
Thorough knowledge of theories and principles of human genetics.
Knowledge of the statistical methods and procedures, including survey techniques for evaluation of the adequacy of research designs and techniques; ability to communicate in written form; ability to record data in a timely and accurate manner.
Knowledge of current development in the field of Genomic Medicine; must be able to remain current as well.
Knowledge of health care resources available for appropriate referral.
Skills to present in the field of medical genetics to professional and lay groups.
Skills to integrate and interpret clinical and genetic information in order to understand the limitations, interpretation and significance of specialized laboratory and clinical procedures.
Knowledge of research techniques to develop, implement and evaluate genetic/genomic research projects.

Board certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC). Must be licensed as a Genetic Counselor in the State of California.
Bilingual in Spanish.
Travel to satellite clinics in Sacramento or the vicinity.
