Process surgical, cytology and autopsy specimens for the Pathologists in accordance with policies, procedures, philosophy and objectives of Carondelet Health Network. Maintains technical and quality assurance standards and procedures for Histology. Monitors daily staffing issues and workflow. Accountable for performing and providing quality customer service in Histology. Is responsible for ongoing interface and frequent communication with patients, customers, employees and management. Effectively supports efforts to manage change and innovation and foster teambuilding. Understands and contributes to the vision/mission and goals of the department.
Process surgical, cytology and autopsy specimens.
Perform routine testing.
Enter results/reactions in computer.
Perfom testing and handling of blood products following appropriate procedures.
Complete work in accordance to CLIA/CAP/JCAHO standards.
Maintain current knowledge for in vitro specimen processing for gross and microscopic examination.
Assist with the cleanliness of Histology.
Perform quality control checks, adhering to schedules, and keeping work area stocked and equipment in safe operating condition.
Level 2 ï¿½ Proficient (in addition to above duties)
Use time management and flexibility in organizing and prioritizing workload to provide optimal service to the department and the network.
Enter data into information systems used within the department. Retrieve statistical data and information.
Level 3 ï¿½ Subject Matter Expert (in addition to above duties)
Assist with department procedures and administration.
Lead and support in revising policies and procedures.
Participate in quality improvement measures within the department.
Required: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.)
ASCP or equivalent certification, including internship in an accredited program.
Preferred: Associates Degree in related field. Additional training in CQI Process related health care standards and practices.
Required: HT (ASCP)
Preferred: 2 years Histology Technician experience.
Required: Team building, problem solving, critical thinking, coaching and mentoring, understanding of systems thinking and business development, and interpersonal communication
Required: Regulatory and accreditation requirements.
Preferred: Continuous Quality Improvement Process related health care standards and practices.
Required: Basic computer skills, personal computer applications, and awareness of current use of technology in related field.
Required: Ability to perform equipment and instrument troubleshooting. Must be able to work variable shifts, weekends, and/or holidays.
Preferred: Change and conflict management.
