JOB SUMMARY:
To study and learn, consistent with the guidelines outlined by the student's college/university and the Geisinger Human Resources (HR) department, the various aspects of HR strategy, operations and service delivery. Participates in various activities within the HR Department, particularly in the areas related to Talent Management, Total Rewards, HR Technology, Employee and Labor Relations. This is a 16-24 hours per week summer position, lasting approximately 8-10 weeks. This internship will be located in Danville, PA. Reports to the VP, Human Resources
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Through this internship, an intern will learn about the following areas: 1. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the 11 elements of Geisinger’s talent management strategy (talent acquisition, workforce planning, performance management, engagement, development, succession management, etc.) and the key performance indicators (KPIs). 2. Develop a comprehensive understanding of Geisinger’s commitment to Cultural Diversity & Inclusion. 3. Develop a comprehensive understanding of Geisinger’s total reward offerings. 4. Conduct a SWOT analysis of items 1-3 above; present to HR leaders 3-5 recommendations on attracting, retaining, developing and engaging a multi-generational and culturally diverse workforce.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively and the ability to work with staff at all levels of the organization. Demonstrates the ability to a self-motivated individual with strong attention to detail and demonstrated organizational skills. Demonstrates excellent composition and editing skills including thorough knowledge of English, grammar, spelling and punctuation. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must be currently enrolled in degree program going into Sophomore, Junior or Senior year preferably pursuing a degree in business, finance, human resources, insurance or risk management. Must have demonstrated customer service skills and experience working within a team. Computer proficiency for correspondence, data entry, e-mail, Internet, Microsoft Office 2010 (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel).
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is typically performed in an office environment. Independent travel to the sites throughout the system and surrounding communities may be required.
