JOB DESCRIPTION: Clinical Exercise Physiologist LOCATION: Danville DEPARTMENT: Cardiology WORK SCHEDULE: Days WORK TYPE: Full Time
JOB SUMMARY: Primary responsibility will be to supervise exercise and pharmacologic stress testing in the exercise labs at primary location and outreaches, including assessing the cardiovascular and metabolic effects of exercise on healthy, cardiac, or high-risk outpatients and inpatients, as well as, the determination of appropriate test and test termination.
Other responsibilities are to implement and supervise the physical exercise program of patients in the outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program at assigned location.
Reports to the Cardiovascular Supervisor and the Medical Director of the Adult Echocardiography Lab.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills, to include patient/family education.
Demonstrates good organizational and team skills.
Demonstrates ability to work independently and meet critical deadlines while maintaining accuracy and thoroughness.
Demonstrates ability to prioritize workload and handle emergency situations.
Be accountable for actions that are within the scope of practice for an exercise specialist as described by ACSM and AACVPR.
Demonstrates ability to perform the necessary skills and competencies as described in the competencies section of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Policies and Procedures Manual.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: M.S. in exercise physiology or equivalent required. Two years of previous relevant experience as an exercise specialist in cardiac rehabilitation preferred.
American College of Sports Medicine certification as an Exercise Specialist is required or to be obtained within two years of hire. Or 10 years of stress testing experience within the Geisinger Health System in lieu of the ACSM certification
Requires six months on the job to become familiar with the duties and responsibilities of the position.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to work flexible hours with various start times. Required standing, sitting, and performance of stretching exercises both standing and on the floor. Travel to other sites may be required.
