Prepares the patient for transport and transports patient safely throughout the system. Provides care as indicated to patients during the transport as directed under general supervision.
Properly identifies patient according to current system standards, before initiating any care.
Assesses patient needs for the transport and prepares the patient accordingly.
Performs patient transfers using correct body mechanics and lifting techniques and devices, while maintaining patient and self-safety.
Independently transports patients via stretcher and wheelchair with accompanying equipment safely in a timely manner.
Maintains control of patient medical record during transport, delivering with patient to predetermined location and ensuring its return when applicable.
Provides care to patients in accord with policy and procedure, initiating CPR as indicated.
Selects, maintains, and troubleshoots all transport and lift equipment for proper function, operation and cleanliness, taking appropriate action when cleaning or repair is necessary.
Ensures correct oxygen level is provided during transport, notifying the Respiratory Therapist responsible for patient when assistance is needed.
Maintains daily transport log for department, transferring information to other means as appropriate.
Signs patients in and out at specific Nurse stations and ancillary departments, where applicable.
Verbally informs the appropriate personnel when transporting patient out of and returning.
Communicates current status with staff, in regard to patient transports.
Assists in lifting, turning, transferring patients with applicable transport equipment when necessary.
Assists with turning and positioning with Registered Nurse or designee to enable complex treatment procedures using appropriate infection control guidelines.
Plans for equipment needs to safely perform lifts and notifies the manager of any unsafe equipment for repair.
Evaluates equipment for safe use before application to patient: stretchers, airpal, stretcher chairs, hoover lifts, wheelchairs, commodes, helicopter and ambulance transport carts or belts.
Assists with patient falls as directed anywhere on campus.
Assists Nursing Supervisor in obtaining equipment as requested.
Responding to Emergency Room Level IV and lending assistance in any manner appropriate.
