The Service Line Director for Orthopedics, within the MHealth/Fairview Orthopedic Service Line, works in close partnership with the Orthopedic Service Line Executive and Physician Chief(s) of Orthopedics. The incumbent will have responsibility for the strategic direction and coordination of initiatives surrounding growth, quality and patient safety, patient experience, physician integration, and consistency of the Orthopedic practice. This key position has accountability for the operational leadership, financial performance, clinical practice, business development, care coordination, and standardization goals for Orthopedics across the system. The incumbent will foster strong physician and peer leader relationships and ensure clinical operations, including scheduling and volume, are maximized at each site in order to provide a high quality patient experience along the care continuum.
The Service Line Director for Orthopedics will lead program development efforts that support a multi-million-dollar revenue budget and act as the principle operations partner with senior leadership teams at each hospital. The Service Line Director for Orthopedics will serve as an ambassador to propel MHealth/Fairview toward becoming the premiere provider of Orthopedic services.
Strong administrative leadership and expertise to effectively partner with physicians, promoting a team approach to strategic planning and the development of a full continuum specialty program.
Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.
Collaborates and creates partnerships across health system to ensure business strategies, goals, and objectives are met.
Design, develop and implement operational plans to meet organizational pillar metrics including financial, employee and physician engagement, quality metrics and performance improvement initiatives as well as patient experience.
Ensure effective physician partnerships internally and externally for Orthopedics and responsible for negotiation of physician collaborative agreements.
Accountable for financial performance of Orthopedics.
Prepares and implements, with the input from physician partners and health system leadership, the business plans for Orthopedics for the Orthopedic Service Line that helps us achieve our performance dimension goals for the Service Line.
Develops and implements new programs, in collaboration with other health system leadership and the physician partners, to accomplish the objectives of the business plans for Orthopedic. Coordinates system wide the strategy and planning for Orthopedic related services, consistency of standards and developing integrated programs for the system.
Takes strategic objectives outlined by Orthopedic Executive Leadership and leads efforts to accomplish the goals.
Seeks out best practices across the industry, monitors technology evolution, and continuously evaluates emerging opportunities and threats within the market.
Capitalizes on the Systems opportunities to further expand capabilities in Orthopedic specialties, improve the overall quality of Orthopedic care and improve the overall coordination of Orthopedic specialties.
Articulates the vision and sets strategy for Orthopedic services throughout MHealth/Fairview, focusing on the key components of Neurology/Neurosurgery/Pain, i.e., growth, contribution margin, costs, clinical quality, technology, service quality, and physician alignment.
Assists in driving the system-wide effort to increase aggregate volumes and related procedures and increase the percent of MHealth/Fairviews market share in its primary and secondary market in a cost effective and profitable manner. This will include support of active and future physician recruitment.
Creates a seamless, highly responsive Orthopedic organization where the focus is on outstanding quality outcomes and the highest level of services to all customers/ constituencies.
Coordinates the system-wide operations of Orthopedic services and consistency of standards and ensures clinical and administrative best practices are communicated, shared and implemented throughout the system.
Fosters a commitment to leverage academic partnerships and apply knowledge to enhance Orthopedic practices.
Bachelors degree in healthcare, business or a related field.
Five or more years leadership experience in a complex organization with exposure to matrix operating structures, experience with program development, project management and collaborative decision-making. Experience leading physicians or multi-disciplinary teams to achieve desired outcomes.
Proven ability to manage the financial and capital resources of the department/service groupings.
Masters in Healthcare Administration or Masters in Business Administration preferred.
Experience in an Orthopedic service in a multi-hospital academic system a plus.
