Histotechnician / Histotechnologist

We have multiple opportunities for talented and dedicated Histotechnician/Histotechnologist in our Histology Department. Full-time positions are available on evening and night shift. Up to $10,000 sign-on bonuses available for applicable positions.

As a Histotechnician/Histotechnologist, you will prepare surgical and autopsy specimen materials for clinical diagnosis. Assists pathologist in making various examinations on submitted specimens including all phases of varied and complex histological procedures involving relatively advanced histological work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

1. Maintains knowledge of anatomy, pathology and medical terminology to appropriately perform job duties.
2. Identifies, prepares and processes tissue and body fluid specimens according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
3. Processes tissues utilizing automated techniques according to departmental SOPs.
4. Performs various sectioning and staining techniques as dictated by type of specimen (i.e. brain, bone, kidney, etc.) utilizing proper slide positioning.
5. Performs dilutions in preparation of solutions and reagents for special stains.
6. Prioritizes/reorganizes work to respond to workload and/or STAT requests.
7. Recognizes and corrects instrument malfunctions within the scope of the operations manual and records troubleshooting activities; Includes routine maintenance and cleaning of instruments as per manufacturer guidelines.
8. Conducts established quality control and performance improvement activities.
9. Provides clinical orientation and/or training of new employees/students.
10. Participates in Service Recovery and continuing education programs, as applicable.
11. Maintains knowledge and skill related to loading processors and embedding pathology specimens.
12. Functions appropriately for on-call demands, if required.
13. Performs necessary barcoding functions.
