Laboratory Supervisor
Role Summary and Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for overseeing day to day activities in the Laboratory. Schedules associates, ensures appropriate staffing levels. Completes the lab director's duties as needed and where appropriate. Educates students and new employees. Communicates professionally with staff, physicians, and departments to ensure quality patient care. Demonstrates leadership by inspiring a consensus team following. Exhibits an employee example as pertains to attendance, the culture and spirit of the institute, and adherence to policy. Puts patient care and quality first and shares that sentiment to teammates and coworkers. Also acts in Medical Technologist role as needed.
- Processing and testing in one or more departments during a shift
- Mastery and practice of laboratory policy and procedure
- Intimate knowledge of testing methods theory and instruments and tools used for diagnostic utility
- Quality Assurance, Kit Validation, Instrument Maintenance, Proficiency Testing, Environmental Monitoring, Reagent Preparation, Diagnostic Reporting and Alarm
- Incident reporting and documentation
- Professional and medical ethics, confidentiality police, PHI and patient privacy guardian
- Specimen collection specialist
- High complexity specialty management
- Assisting Technologists and Administrative Laboratory Director as needed and where appropriate
Department/Unit Summary:
The Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital Diagnostic Lab consists of Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Reference Lab, Blood Bank, and Coagulation. The Lab processes over 6,000 tests weekly and utilize cutting-edge EMR and LIS system. This is a 24- hour operation with 8 hours shifts with experienced Phlebotomy support. Every other weekend required and holiday rotation. Bachelor's Degree (MT License) Preferred.
