Details
The Medical Technician position serves under the Kansas City VA Medical Centers Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service and will be assigned duties with inpatient and outpatient work. Primary duties include customer service, receiving and accessioning specimens from various locations, preparing specimens for shipment, and performing minimally as well as moderately complex testing. Major duties include but are not limited to: - Accurately processing all samples that arrive in the laboratory by aliquoting and refrigerating or freezing samples according to the test ordered. - Shipping samples to reference laboratories accurately and in a timely manner, and inputs results from reference laboratories. - Performing testing and testing of proficiency survey testing as a check on accuracy of laboratory results - Maintaining accurate laboratory records and entering test results from reference laboratories - Maintains the central accessioning area supply inventory. - Maintains the central accessioning area equipment. - Using established procedures, calibrates, controls, and maintains a variety of instrumentation laboratory equipment - Receives specimens from hospital inpatients and outpatients, CBOCS and other network labs - Follows all requisition, collection and handling specifications for specimens sent to reference labs and for in house testing - Performs specimen deletions within the Laboratory Package of VISTA. - Inputs results from reference laboratories - Packages products for shipment or for courier pickup. - Assist with Phlebotomy as needed; collection on bone marrow patients (when required) and Sundays as needed - Performing appropriate levels of maintenance on all equipment in the accessioning area and keeps sufficient inventory of supplies - Meeting the needs of customers while supporting VA missions - The work requires frequent exposure to blood and blood borne pathogens as well as hazardous materials and compliance with federal agency requirements - Following proper PPE protocol and infectious control policies Work Schedule: Various tours with rotating weekends and rotating holidays Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position Position Description/PD#: Medical Technician (Specimen Processor)/PD02417A Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
