The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting for Medical Technologists. The Medical Technologist will function within our Ancillary Service. This is an OPEN CONTINOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until December 31, 2021. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be March 1, 2021. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. Performing a broad range of laboratory procedures and phlebotomy, including all testing and tasks of the medical laboratory technologist occupation. Performing advanced and complex laboratory procedures; recognizes deviation from expected results; analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles. Evaluating and solving problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis taking into account physiologic processes and requirements. Maintaining and documenting the optimal functioning of laboratory equipment. Using, calibrating, identifying malfunctions, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment. Diagnosing deviations in test performance due to instrument malfunction. Performing and documenting quality control and assurance activities and corrective actions related to test performance using statistical principles and theories of performance improvement. Adhering to practices and regulations governing biosafety and biosecurity in the workplace. Identifying discrepancies, solving problems, and presenting solutions. Answering inquiries regarding test results, methodology, test specificity, test sensitivity, and specific factors, which influence test results. Interprets results and suggests follow-up test selection or procedures. Evaluating and implementing new techniques and procedures in the laboratory in terms of equipment, method comparison, and establishment of reference intervals using statistical methods and theoretical knowledge. Interprets findings and makes recommendations. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. with rotating weekends and holidays. In addition, the work schedule may change based on the needs of the Medical Center.
