Serves as a Medical Technician in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in a large medical system with state of the art instrumentation and methodologies for laboratory analysis. The purpose of the position is to perform a variety of laboratory tests to provide accurate lest results to health care providers. The work of the Medical Technician directly affects the efficiency and effectiveness of the laboratory operation and the ability of the laboratory to meet the needs of the patients. The Medical Technician performs both routine and specialized testing as assigned (including, but not limited to. laboratory testing in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology and serology sections). Medical laboratory technicians use microscopes, centrifuges. incubators, balances and other instruments in laboratory tests to analyze body fluids and other substances to aid in determining the presence or absence of disease or other abnormal conditions, Performs work in a clinical laboratory where the majority of the work is in support of patient diagnosis and/or treatment. Performs work, and applies practical knowledge where needed, involving routine and specialized tests and examinations using the techniques of medical laboratory practices in the chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, immunohematology, immunochemistry. serology and microbiology. Implements and follows proper protocols in receiving/collecting, sorting, recording, storing and/or shipping of clinical laboratory specimens so that appropriate testing/diagnostic procedure: can be performed. ln addition, additional data or information from healthcare providers may have to be obtained as required.
