The primary purpose of the Health Technician (Prosthetics) is to support the clinical and administrative functions of VISN 10 and Prosthetics Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) by, under supervision, constructing and repairing simple orthotic devices. These devices will be prescribed under VA and medical facility policies, procedures and treatment plans. The location will be at the Central Fabrication Unit in Marion, IN. The primary duties of the Health Technician (Prosthetics) position will include: Constructs/shapes and repairs common foot orthotics from cast scans and/or documents provided by clinicians. Repairs custom foot orthosis and shoes, using a variety of materials. Repairs leather, metal, plastic, and fabric components to orthotic items. Follows established regulations and procedures to ensure patient privacy. Maintains inventory and stock levels. Carries out responsibilities of submitting, packing, and shipping necessary items as related to work. Performs appropriate documentation of workload, procedure coding and progress notes in electronic medical record, appointments and encounters. Maintains current knowledge of new items, procedures, and techniques as related to their scope of practice. Communicates with the Orthotics staff to review assignments. Maintains lab equipment with respect to maintenance and cleanliness. Follows established procedures in performing preventative maintenance on shop equipment. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by the Lab Supervisor. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 0800-1630. Schedule subject to change based upon the needs of the Agency.
