This position is located under the Surgical Service section within Nursing Services and duties are performed in the Operating Room. Plan and carry out assignments and handle problems in accordance with pertinent regulations, policies, practices and instructions. Act as primary scrub person handling instruments, supplies and equipment during complex surgical procedures. Demonstrate teamwork by assisting staff with equipment. Set up sterile table with instruments, suture, blades, suction, prostheses, solutions and medications. Counts sponges, needles, and instruments with circulator prior to surgery and before incision is closed. Assemble a variety of complex medical equipment. Gowns and gloves surgeons, assistants and other members of the operative team. Responds immediately to emergency situations such as hemorrhage and adverse reactions of patients. Transports patients Identifies patient by verifying armbands and consent for surgery. Performs basic assessment of patient's skin, mobility, respiratory status and anxiety level. Informs operating room liaison and anesthetists of patient assessments that would adversely affect surgical intervention. Performs routine cleaning of operation rooms, and supply areas autoclaves according to department policy. Clean sterile cabinets and restock rooms with basic supplies. Performs duties outside the patient's operating room. Unload sterile supply cart and returns equipment to the proper place. Practices preventative maintenance. Communicates needs of the case and breaks in technique. Accepts constructive criticism in a calm manner.
