This is an internal job announcement for current permanent facility employees. This is a developmental position in the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center. The full performance level of this position is GS-0622-07. This position is intended to provide experience and on-the-job training. The incumbent will receive progressively more difficult assignments and projects to achieve specialized objectives as illustrated by the below factors: This position is responsible for providing direct instrumentation processing support in a variety of activities, including direct leadership of staff, performing decontamination, sterilization, assembly, SPS equipment control, inventory control of SPS dedicated items and instrumentation distribution for all patient care areas, clinics, and special procedure units. Incumbent may rotate in the mix, as well as assign duties in the Preparation, Decontamination, and Sterile/Clean Storage Areas. The expectation is 100% accuracy, 100% of the time. Additional duties may be assigned as required by the unit. Duties include but are not limited to: The mission, vision, and purpose of the SPS Section, and how SPS is integrated into the facility healthcare continuum. A thorough knowledge of aseptic techniques and principles used for the full range of medical instrumentation and equipment used on the wards, clinics, and operating areas (where applicable). He/she must be familiar with the many types of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved germicides, disinfectants and detergents used for cleaning disinfecting and sterilizing supplies and equipment and their compatibility with different types of metals, plastics and composites. Thorough working knowledge of the equipment and processes used in the entire instrumentation processing progression and the ability to train and instruct staff (as needed) in their use and purpose. Must be able to lead employees and manage all work-related priorities as well as schedule work assignments as needed. The employee must possess knowledge and skill in communicating with fellow staff members about compliance with directives, rules, and regulations pertinent to SPS.
