The Certified Phlebotomist I will perform blood collection activities in accordance with Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center Laboratory Services department standards and procedures. The Certified Phlebotomist I will perform pre-analytic, post-analytic and data management under the direction of a Clinical Laboratory supervisor or other appropriately California licensed personnel. The Certified Phlebotomist I will demonstrate the skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job 1. Perform venipuncture and finger stick specimen collection activities according to laboratory protocol. 2. Follow laboratory protocol to ensure proper identification of patients and specimens. 3. Perform pre-analysis and post-analysis of laboratory orders according to department protocols and procedures. 4. Evaluate quality control and assurance requirements where applicable. 5. Provide quality laboratory service to clients, patients, physicians and peers. 6. Ability to meet department scheduling and attendance requirements. 7. Require effective communication, verbally, in writing and through other means. 8. Consistently apply infection control policies and procedures. 9. Attend and actively participate in department specific education, training, in-services, process improvement initiatives and staff meetings. 10. Participate in performance improvement projects in the laboratory. 11. Ensure equipment and safety devices are used as intended and designed. 12. Ensure compliance at all times with hospital and laboratory policies and procedures. 13. Perform data management and documentation activities.
