The Technical Director for the Clinical Laboratory is a clinical and technical, doctorate-level, scientist that oversees the daily clinical and technical activities of a clinical specialty department at multiple hospitals and reports directly to the Executive Director of Laboratory Systems to foster performance improvement supporting patient care initiatives and systematic implementation of best practice and new technology designed to reduce error and improve patient outcomes. Responsible for collaborating with senior leadership, medical staff leaders, program medical directors and department chairmen for clinical service lines to set priorities and develop improvement strategies for effective utilization of laboratory resources. Responsible for directing the assessment and resolution of regulatory compliance problems system-wide for Laboratory and escalating critical issues that impact patient safety and accreditation status to senior leadership. Provides education to physicians, pharmacists, residents, technologists, and nursing personnel on the appropriate use of laboratory resources and other related information in the treatment of patients. Actively participate in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Directs and oversees the day-to-day operation of the multi-hospital enterprise department specialty program.

Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives; recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff.
Responsible for selection and implementation of new technology and equipment for a laboratory specialty.
Maintains positive relations acting as liaison to ensure collaboration across multiple disciplines.
Exercises independent decision-making processes to identify, plan, and execute goals.
Collaborates with Laboratory Administration, Medical Director, and Campus Laboratories to maintain necessary and clinically effective testing, products, services, and instrumentation/equipment. Introduces new tests, processes and instrumentation/equipment which may include recommendation, selection, evaluation, cost analysis, change management, and education.
Acts as the technical specialist and consultant for both the clinical lab and physicians, overseeing the department specialty program of a multi--hospital system and the associated FTEs in the laboratory.
Prepares and executes a multi-million operating budget and net revenue annually, setting priorities for implementation of new technology and improvement strategies supporting patient care initiatives.
Provides education to physicians, pharmacists, residents, technologists, and nursing personnel on the appropriate use of laboratory resources and other related information in the treatment of the patients.
Oversight the daily technical activities by coordinating with and directing the laboratory specialty Section Supervisors.
Assists in test interpretation, trouble shooting and clinical correlation.
Responsible for designing, directing, and assigning QC programs for the laboratory specialty department.
Evaluates new department specialty assays and protocols according to hospital requirements and clinical relevance.
Maintains a state-of-art department specialty lab by developing clinical and integrated protocols and introduces new and advanced assays for improving result reliability and turnaround time.
Clinical interaction includes daily consultation with patient care services, physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and associated allied health care personnel concerning laboratory tests/assays, procedures, and test interpretation.
Provides consultation for collection, integrity, transportation, and specimen processing.
Participates in appropriate meetings and committees as required to a system level.
Supports hospital workgroups and committees providing clinical and technical laboratory expertise regarding laboratory testing.
Develops and implements educational tools to assist in interpretation of current, as well as new tests, emphasizing clinical relevance.
Stays informed of changes and new technologies within the laboratory specialty field and related fields for further implementation focused on patient quality care.
Coordinates and designs quality management reports such as QC monthly review, test turnaround time, for the AdventHealth Lab.
Daily clinical interventions through case-by-case review with providers, tests review for avoiding duplicates, errors and missing orders and culture workup review for proper documentation, report and interpretation.
Knowledge and Experience Strongly Preferred
Knowledge of applicable regulatory and accreditation standards, rules and guidelines, such as DNV, CLIA, OSHA, AABB, COLA, CAP, ASHI, State of Florida, and related agencies, as well as AdventHealth Corporate Responsibility.
• A high degree of theoretical and practical knowledge and expertise of analytical testing in licensed specialty(ies), with ability to share, explain, teach, and mentor others.
