The incumbent, under the supervision of the Supervisor of Respiratory Care displays proficiency and performs at a level of excellence in Respiratory Care. The incumbent is responsible for his/her individual program within the service. The services are performed in accordance with the guidelines established by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) WI licensing Board and the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC), and policies and procedures of Middleton VA Hospital. The protocol and procedures are established for the treatment, management, evaluation, and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities associated with the cardiopulmonary system. The services include, but are not limited to, the following activities performed under a provider: Therapeutic and diagnostic procedures with the use of medical gases and administration devices, humidification and aerosols. Setting up and monitoring complex respiratory equipment such as volume and pressure ventilators. Administration of medication to the cardiopulmonary system. Ventilatory support, including maintenance and management of life support systems, and the patient/ventilator interface. Bronchopulmonary drainage and breathing exercises. Basic Life Support Certification (BLS). Member Code Blue and Rapid Response Teams. Assisting therapists and physicians in placing artificial airways into the trachea and confirming proper placement. Arterial puncture and interpreting results of blood gas analysis. Patient/family education. Recognition of the need for medical intervention if patient safety is at risk. Home oxygen evaluations. Work Schedule: Intermittent schedule working an average of 4-5 shifts per pay period Night/PM shifts with every 3rd weekend. Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
