The Ft. Harrison VA is currently recruiting for one (1) GS-10 Medical Technologist - Advanced Staff applicant. The following duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Develops, performs, evaluates, interprets, correlates, and validates the accuracy of laboratory procedures and results. Performs work is in areas of Microbiology and Molecular testing and one areas of the main lab. Works throughout the areas of Microbiology and Molecular testing and coordinates the laboratory competency program 25% of the time. Performs work on a variety of biological specimens and/or environmental samples using manual or automated techniques that requires a broad exercise of independent judgement and responsibility. Performs work in a variety of laboratory disciplines such as: Bacteriology, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Coagulation, Hematology, Immunology, Immunohematology, (Blood Banking), Mycology, Parasitology, Serology, Urinalysis, and Virology. Modifies or adapts new methods or techniques to improve or expand services. Develops protocols for performances of tests and evaluations of results. Ensures the laboratory tests and procedures are consistent with accrediting agencies standards and requirements. Recognizes methodology limitations such as linearity, interference, sensitivity and specificity and confiders these when drawing conclusions about the validity of testing results. Performs validation/method verification studies for new systems. Consults with healthcare providers on logical protocol to follow in attempting to confirm the diagnosis or risk assessment of a patient. Provides advisory services to technicians, technologists, and other specialists. Performs others duties and tasks as assigned.
