This position is in Sterile Processing Service as a Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing Technician). In this position, the incumbent will provide sterilization, preparation, supply items and reusable medical equipment decontamination and distribution support for the medical center. The term "supply item" as used in this functional statement refers to disposable and reusable items for patient care including instrumentation (scissors, forceps, retractors, etc.), reusable medical equipment (suction machines infusion pumps, etc.), surgical trays and sets and various other items that could be processed or assembled through the Preparation and Decontamination areas of Sterile Processing Service. Specific duties to include, but not limited to: removes soil, blood, tissue fragments, body fluids, and othe containments by wiping, soaking, rinsing, and scrubbing. Assembles basic sets, trays and peel packs used throughout the medical center, including those used in the operating room. Inspects packages for indications of proper sterilization, proper packaging and signs of unsterile product. MSTs receive guidance from more experienced staff members for more complex tasks and require direct supervision on new assignments. Advanced skills from next lower grade level should include; case cart preparation, based daily surgery schedule. Operation of all sterilizers, to include: steam, hydrogen peroxide, ETO. Performs high level disinfection via soak and scope reprocessors. Documentation of testing procedures and legal data logs. The incumbent will have knowledge of the processes for Reusable Medical Equipment (RME). The incumbent will be required to utilize the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) which document the processes and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RME appropriate to this position. The incumbent will be able to demonstrate their ability to utilize an acceptable proficiency in the use of RME appropriate to this position. During the Decontamination Assignment, employee is expected to utilize the departments instrument tracking software to document the reprocessing of RME. Employee will remove soil, blood, tissue fragments, body fluids and other contaminants by wiping, soaking, rinsing and scrubbing. Report to management lack of pre-cleaning or instrumentation damages. Follow the decontamination process for instruments per established Standard Operating Procedures and/or Manufactures Instructions for Use. Demonstrate ability to use ultrasonic, enzymatic dispensers and washer/disinfectors and other machines as needed, appropriately. Assigned to transport sterile and contaminated RME throughout the facility, in accordance with transport regulations. Maintains clean work environment and reports when equipment is in ill repair. Accepts work assignments from more advanced staff.
