The Integrated Genomics Operation (IGO) enables basic, clinical and translational research projects across the Cancer Center. IGO implements the MSK mission to cure cancer by providing a broad range of genomic services and expertise to our world-class research scientists. We are a high throughput core facility producing >100TB of data per year across >40 applications including fourth generation of genomics technologies such as single cell and spatial transcriptomics.
The IGO Library Preparation team is seeking an experienced technician to support the team.
The candidate will work with liquid handling robots (Hamilton, Beckman) to make libraries and perform captures for large batches of samples while they will also learn manual processing for highly challenging samples in smaller batches. The candidate will perform quality and quantity measurements on various QC instruments. IGO has a strong team-based culture and as such, the candidate will interface with many other teams within the lab. Prior experience with robotic liquid handling is highly preferred. Programming and writing methods for the liquid handling robots is a plus but not required.
As a Research Assistant in the Library Preparation Team, you will :
Make NGS libraries from RNA and DNA following established SOPs.
Plan and pool NGS libraries to capture using requested gene panels.
Load and run the liquid handlers according to pre-established robotic methods.
Review every step in the automated and/or manual process to maintain the high-quality standards.
Assist group leader to create an efficient and error-proof workflow and troubleshoot accordingly.
Communicate with vendor technical support and sales representatives.
Maintain and coordinate documentation for assay tracking and results for review/reporting through iLabs and LIMS.
An enthusiastic researcher organized and detail oriented.
Able to work independently while working in a large team.
Able to work manually and work with robotic processing.
Someone who can handle a very fast paced environment and the pressure associated with deadlines.
An outstanding communicator.
Someone who can multitask.
A Bachelors Degree in a Biological, Chemistry, or Science related field with at least 3 years of relevant full-time experience or a masters degree with 1-2 years full-time relevant experience.
Previous exposure to NGS library preparation and Illumina sequencer loading is preferable.
Strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills.
At Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK), we’re not only changing the way we treat cancer, but also the way the world thinks about it. By working together and pushing forward with innovation and discovery, we’re driving excellence and improving outcomes. For the 28th year, MSK has been named a top hospital for cancer by U.S. News & World Report. We are proud to be on Becker’s Healthcare list as one of the 150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare in 2018, as well as one of Glassdoor’s Employees’ Choice Best Place to Work for 2018. We’re treating cancer, one patient at a time. Join us and make a difference every day.
