The position is located within the VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS) in the Surgical Service, Plastic Surgery Section in Dallas, TX. He/she provides direct patient care performing as a Plastic Surgery Technician in the hospital setting, to include the operating room environment, outpatient clinics and inpatient nursing care units. The incumbent has a basic knowledge of Plastic Surgery principles, practices and procedures as required. The duties of this position are stated below but not limited to the following: - Articulates descriptions of plastic surgery conditions based on advanced understanding of anatomical structures and their relationships with one another. - Interviews patients for symptoms and ay other information that will assist in diagnostic examination of the patient. - Collects health history and records in the chart, using CPRS, patient's condition, progress, interventions provided. - Uses sound judgement in determining when to initiate immediate action prior to notifying the registered nurse of acute or emergent conditions, such syncopal episodes, cardiopulmonary arrest, seizures, etc. - Prepares and knows the specific uses of all equipment and supplies for plastic surgery procedures. - Demonstrates the step-by-step process of specific plastic surgery procedures and displays the dexterity required in the use of specific instruments and equipment. - Assists the plastic surgery surgeons in the operating under the direct supervision of a surgeon. - Able to remove sutures, staples, Steinman pins, K-wires, change dressings and care for wounds in both inpatient care setting and the outpatient clinics using the proper application of aseptic techniques. - Orders plastic surgery equipment and supplies using established procedures and the resources available through the VA North Texas health care Systems. - Participates in the cleaning and stocking of plastic surgery patient exam rooms and treatment areas.
