Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Supervisor - Hematology Labs.
Under the guidance of the Hematology Manager this position is responsible for the quality and the quantity of work, procedures, personnel and cost for the Hematology Laboratory. This position provides cross coverage for the other laboratory areas as requested. Formulate goals, assign objectives, establish standards of practice and ensures continuity of services. Maintain regulatory compliance for NYSDOH, CAP and TJC.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversees the day to day operation of the Hematology Laboratory which is primarily comprised of hematology, coagulation and urinalysis. Provides cross coverage for other laboratories as requested.
- Performs other related job duties or responsibilities as requested or required, whether or not specifically mentioned in this job description.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's service standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
- Attends meetings as appropriate and participates on committees as requested.
- Time utilization: Acts appropriately in prioritizing and coordinating responsibilities and duties to ensure smooth operation of the laboratory.
- Reports/documentation: Prepares reports and oversees all departmental documentation as requested.
- Cost containment: participates in cost control activities by seeking the most effective method of delivering quality services and maintains an awareness of the cost impact of decisions and actions. Utilizes the Medical Center's resources responsibility.
- Staff development, evaluation, counseling and personnel related activities: Directly supervises lead technologist and oversees the supervision of the entire staff. Interviews prospective employees, evaluates and document staff performance in conjunction with assigned supervisor and performs personnel counseling. Provides education to staff and residents as requested.
- Under the guidance of the Hematology Manager, is responsible for all instruments and new test validation, correlation, verification, implementation, staff training and competency
- Planning, procedure development and quality assurance: Under the guidance of the Hematology Manager, develops and implements departmental operating policies and procedures with ongoing development/modification of the laboratory's quality control/quality assurance programs and requirements for regulatory agencies. Maintains satisfactory performance in all proficiency programs.
- Management of staff including lead technologist: assigns responsibilities, establishes work hours, monitors staffing and approves any necessary overtime.
- Acts as a liaison between the laboratory and physicians providing result review and assistance with interpretation as requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or Science related field.
- Minimum of six years in a clinical laboratory and knowledgeable in all area of hematology, coagulation and urinalysis areas.
- NYS Department of Education license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
