The community you’ll be caring for: 1000 WATERMAN WAY, Tavares, FL 32778
The role you’ll contribute: Process surgical specimens for pathologic diagnosis, tissue fixation, processing, preparing and staining slides for microscopic examination by the pathologist.
The value you’ll bring to the team
- Follows established procedures for patient and specimen identification
- Conducts problem resolution for pre-analytical/analytical post analytical specimen issues
- Utilizes LIS system for all specimen processing and handling functions
- Histology preparation of slides
- Special Stains/Immunoperoxidase Staining
- Assists in establishing and adheres to laboratory Quality Control policies
- Performs and documents required maintenance, calibrations and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and test systems
- Identifies problems that adversely affect test/work performance and resolves them in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedures
- Assists with performance and review of laboratory Quality Assurance activities
- Assists in managing reagents and supplies
- Cytology preparation and CT assistance
- Acts as a technical and clinical resource for support staff
- Assures workflow continuity through communication
- Maintains regular dialog with Laboratory supervisory/managerial staff concerning quality, safety and Standard of Behavior issues within the department and the facility
- Demonstrates ability to accept and facilitate change
- Puts away supplies and stocks work area with supplies of varying weight and size
- Organizes work area and adheres to infection control policies
- Participates in laboratory and/or hospital performance improvement activities
- Assist in training new employees
- Assumes one or more of the following responsibilities: key operator duties, projects, tech in charge and evaluation of new technology
- Demonstrates commitment to all department and corporate compliance policies, watches for potential problems, relays concerns to Director/Compliance Officer. Demonstrates commitment to appropriate behavior and is familiar with reporting mechanism
- Orders necessary supplies/reagents for the department
- Order duties as assigned
Qualifications The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
- High school graduate (or equivalent) required
- One year training in an approved school of histology
- Licensed by the State of Florida as a Technologist in histology
- Precise finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Working knowledge of electronic patient medical record.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to maintain cooperative working relationships with various Hospital departments and laboratory staff.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrates Standards of Behaviors. Ability to interact with the public and staff at all levels possessing positive communication skills.
- Must be proficient in the English language
- Cerner knowledge (preferred)
- Graduate from an approved school of histology (preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in Science or related field (preferred)
