Position Summary
The Risk Manager is an exciting opportunity overseeing risk programming to control clinical risks associated with patient care. Collaborating with senior risk managers and various stakeholders, you will work actively to prevent and mitigate patient harm and liability exposure while ensuring regulatory compliance in all aspects. Collaborating with executive and clinical leadership, you will be able to implement strategies and resolve patient concerns.
Responsibilities
You will create and maintain individual event review documentation and aggregate data about events involving patient harm or risks to patient safety to support on-going clinical risk management/mitigation and quality improvement initiatives
You will implement effective strategies to mitigate events associated with patient harm or to prevent patient harm by prospective consultation
You will ensure compliance with federal and state laws related to clinical adverse events including TJC, DOH, CMS and FDA requirements
You will collaborate in the review or conduct a review of events involving patient harm under the direction of the Quality Safety & Steering Committee (QSSC) or Clinical Risk & Safety Committee (CRSC) to identify quality improvement opportunities as part of the MHS quality assurance program. Identify potential professional liability exposures and report to the QSSC or CRSC
You will design and implement educational programs on risk reduction measures and patient safety
You will work with Legal Services to identify remedial measures needed following an adverse event that result in a lawsuit or claim
Requirements
Bachelorâs degree
Master's Degree in MPH, MBA, MPA, Nursing, and/or a Juris Doctorate degree preferred
Risk Management credentials, such as the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or certificate program in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) are preferred; or obtained within 1 year of hire
Two to three (2-3) years of experience managing professional liability events in a health care risk management setting and/or professional liability claims experience is preferred
Two to three (2-3) years of experience as a clinician and/or equivalent work experience in a health care setting is preferred
Minimum two (2) years of experience working with the public to resolve disputes or equivalent work experience is preferred
Two to three (2-3) years of experience developing and using databases to report information is preferred
Two to three (2-3) years of experience in risk management or the like discipline
Consideration may be given to internal candidates not meeting the minimum qualifications

Pay and Benefit Expectations
We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The starting pay for this position is $92,186.00 and the pay scale is $92,186.00 - $132,662.00 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicantâs years of experience align.
