The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at Northwell Health is seeking a lung transplant pulmonologist to serve as Associate Medical Director of Lung Transplantation. Prior experience in management of lung transplant patients in an established lung transplant program is required. Board certification in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine is required; completion of a lung transplant fellowship program is desired.
The Associate Director will work with the Director on clinical duties related to management of pre- and post- lung transplant patients in both ambulatory and in-patient settings. The associate director will also work with the director on lung transplant program growth and development. In addition to clinical care, teaching and research opportunities in lung transplantation are available.
The Associate Medical Director will contribute to further development of our new active lung transplant program in collaboration with the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery based at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, NY. Patient flow to the program is facilitated by advanced lung disease/lung transplant clinics at various Northwell Health hospitals in the metropolitan region. Northwell Health also has established programs in renal, liver and cardiac transplantation. Clinical duties will focus on the care of lung transplant patients, including initial evaluation, peri-transplant care and post-transplant management.
The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine has over 35 faculty members with active subspecialty programs in Interstitial Lung Disease, Pulmonary Hypertension, Cystic Fibrosis, Interventional Pulmonology as well as an Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Program for acute lung injury/ARDS, among other subspecialty areas of expertise. The position includes opportunities for educational activities with trainees including Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellows, residents and medical students as well as the opportunity to pursue translational research in lung transplantation. While the lung transplant program will be based at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, NY, it will be an important component of the Northwell Health Lung Institute, which combines the resources of four tertiary care hospitals, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Lenox Hill Hospital, South Shore University Hospital and Staten Island University Hospital as well as other Northwell hospitals. The program will also serve as a referral resource for Northwell Health hospitals and the Long Island-NY-Westchester regions.
