Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Phlebotomist - 18.75 Weekly Hours - 6am-9:45am, 5 days per week.
In this role, the successful candidate collects blood as assigned. Processes specimens for subsequent testing by technical staff. Performs general clerical and other related duties as required.
Job Responsibilities:
- Trained to recognize potential hazards in the workplace and proper procedures for handling hazardous substances. Those working in the Histology Department are trained in additional procedures for disposal of hazardous waste.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Accepts and clocks-in all specimens as required.
- Log-in all requests and distributes specimens to appropriate sections.
- Answers telephone inquires.
- Transmits laboratory reports utilizing computer terminal.
- Maintains inventory of section supplies.
- Schedules laboratory appointments for out-patients.
- Instructs out-patients on protocol for various laboratory tests.
- Registers out-patients and processes manual or computer generated requests forms.
- Maintains ledgers and required statistics.
- Forwards reports to physicians.
- Occasionally escorts patients to other areas of the Medical Center.
- Transports inter and intradepartmental laboratory reports.
- Processes specimens (centrifuging, separating, numbering, labelling, organizing, etc.) for subsequent testing by the technical staff.
- Perform general clerical duties as required.
- Accepts direction and changes in assignment willingly.
- Completes tasks within appropriate time frame and in order of priority.
- Collect blood by venipuncture or finger puncture on patients as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School Graduate or G.E.D
Completion of approved phlebotomy program with documentation of training or 200 hours of phlebotomy training required.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
