The Advanced Staff Medical Technologist (Microbiology) carries out all of the testing responsibilities of the GS-9 at Mather, but has higher levels of professional responsibilities and expertise. At the GS-10 level, the Microbiology Technologist performs complex laboratory functions with focus on pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic processes of microbiology testing at the Sacramento Medical Center. The technologist has professional oversight responsibilities and takes responsibility for a specific large scale automated analytical instrument or test system; a specific large area of laboratory functions, such as employee competency records, supply functions, quality control review, new method development, employee or student training; or provide professional and technical advice.
